Since 1983, there have been several important changes to the original act as a result of U.S. Supreme Court decisions on the constitutionality of some of its provisions, the necessity for greater clarity in others, or the need for new ways to support land consolidation without infringing upon the rights of Indian landowners. These changes will not be apparent if one examines only the summaries of the acts listed above. Clicking “here” will access a diagram in PDF format that will give you a better idea as to which provisions were changed, how they were changed, and which act introduced a particular provision. (This document does not yet include changes resulting from the American Indian Probate Reform Act of 2004.)
