A good case
can be made that every person in the United States has a vested interest
in the just resolution of the problems that have resulted from the allotment
of Indian lands. As it stands today, Indian land fractionation wastes
millions of dollars without any significant benefit accruing to the individual
Indian, their tribe, or to other citizens of the United States. While
much of the problem must be addressed through amending existing legislation
and improving the relationship between the federal government and tribes,
individuals can help too. One important way to help is to contribute
financially to the mission of ILTF.

Tenure Foundation.
The creation of the Indian Land Tenure Foundation is the result of a three-year
effort by members of the Indian land tenure community – people who
have an interest in and are involved in working to improve Indian land
use and ownership. The work of ILTF is to consolidate, support, and improve
Indian land tenure efforts and the conditions under which Indians use,
occupy, transfer, and control land.
The Foundation is currently focusing its efforts and resources on educating
Indian people and tribal leaders about land management, ownership, and
transference issues. The Foundation will integrate programs focusing on
the economic and cultural aspects of Indian land bases after our first
year of operation. An overarching strategy aims at crucial legal and policy
reform work which will grow from and support our educational, economic,
and cultural program activities and the needs of the Indian land tenure
community.
The Foundation is well aware that it must establish itself for the long
haul. The specific problems on which the Foundation is focusing have been
in the making for the past 150 years or more. To reverse the trends that
were set in motion by these problems and completely address them in a way
that empowers Indian individuals and tribes may take another century or
so. Fulfilling the Foundation’s mission is a monumental task, but
it is one for which the staff and Foundation’s Board of Directors
are committed to building a solid base. You can become actively involved
by providing the necessary financial assistance. Please help us in supporting
our efforts in Indian country.
