Before submitting an unsolicited grant proposal to the Indian Land Tenure Foundation, please read the following information carefully:

Introduction

A primary goal for projects funded by the Indian Land Tenure Foundation is to advance the vision and mission of the Foundation:

"Land within the original boundaries of every reservation and
other areas of high significance wh
ere tribes retain aboriginal       interest are in Indian ownership and management."

In order to fulfill its mission, the Foundation focuses on strategies involving education, culture, economics and law, as directed by the Indian land tenure community that helped create ILTF.

The Foundation carefully and selectively funds organizations, individuals, educational institutions and projects that forward our mission and incorporate our strategies. These projects serve as the cornerstones of ILTF program priorities and activities. All projects must promote activities that directly benefit native people and strengthen their relationship to their homelands.

Methodology for Grant Making: The Request for Proposal

The primary process by which ILTF considers potential projects is through our Request for Proposal (RFP) cycles.

An RFP is a document placed on the Foundation’s web site that solicits proposals from qualified applicants for a specific need or type of project in Indian Country. Proposal specifications and criteria are developed according to our strategies related to education, culture, economy and law.

See the Foundation's Annual Reports for examples of projects funded.

Once proposals for current RFP’s are received, ILTF staff reviews them submits recommendations to the ILTF Board of Directors for their consideration. The ILTF Board makes all final decisions on project funding.

ILTF may consider proposals that are not submitted in conjunction with an RFP cycle. In these cases, proposals must closely align with the mission and strategies of the organization and Indian self-determination. Furthermore, ILTF looks specifically for projects that will have a broad, positive and replicable impact on Indian Country, while at the same time respecting the differences between, and unique circumstances of, tribes and Indian communities.
